Washi canvases organically combine Japanese laconicism and grace, eco-friendly materials and modern technologies

Washi

Washi is made according to ancient Japanese technologies and there are no analogues to it. Today, as well as many centuries ago, washi paper is made by hand according to all the canons of ancient masters and is a UNESCO cultural intangible heritage site. Leading museums of the world are proud of their products made in the last millennium. Pablo Picasso and Marc Chagall were also fascinated by washi paper and used it as a basis in their canvases.
History
More than 1300 years ago, in the Land of the Rising Sun, an unparalleled material was created - washi paper. The secret of its manufacture was passed down by craftsmen from generation to generation, creating a paper that was not only functional, but also reflected the soul and spirit of the creator. Due to its excellent strength characteristics, resistance to ultraviolet radiation (paper does not lose color over time) and durability in use, washi paper was used not only for writing on, but also for the manufacture of portable shoji partitions, lamps and other interior elements. Over time, the rumor about a magnificent handmade product, also used for the decoration of the imperial chambers, spread far beyond Japan. In 1998, Wood & Washi managed to find its best use by creating a union of Japanese age-old traditions and modern European style.
